Lynch to face Tribunal, while defenders offered fines

Richmond forward Tom Lynch will face the AFL Tribunal, while defenders Dylan Grimes and Nick Vlastuin have been offered fines following the Match Review Officer's review of Saturday night's win over Essendon.

Dylan Grimes, Richmond, has been charged with Striking (Fixed Financial Sanction) Jake Stringer, Essendon, during the first quarter of the Round 13 match between Essendon and Richmond, played at TIO Stadium on Saturday August 22.

In summary, he can accept a $750 sanction with an early plea.

I think that with Lynch's tactics being highlighted by the media 3 matches in a row, the AFL had to be seen to do something to stamp out hits behind play. I agree that it's not a good look, but I believe that in this instance, Tom was retaliating against Hurley attempting to hit his bandaged hand. The funny thing is that Tom had his right hand operated on, but it was the left that was bandaged possibly to attract attention to his good hand?

As far as the staging fines are concerned, Grimes and Vlaustin receiving fines creates a precedent that I don't believe the AFL will follow through on. These fines were a direct result of media pressure without which the players staging for frees in today's games, won't suffer the same penalties.
